About Channels

The Channels Estate has a long history, firstly as a working farm, then as a quarry for much needed minerals, after which it was re-landscaped for a golf course before becoming the mix of housing and parkland that it is today.

The first phase of housing, around 750 homes, was granted planning permission in 2012 and has been developed by house builders Bellway, Croudace, Home Group and Marden – all of whom delivered roads, landscaping and over £20m of other benefits as well as homes.

The currently undeveloped northern part of Channels now forms a key part of Chelmsford’s vision for the future, as part of the planned Chelmsford Garden Community, and will deliver a large extension to our parkland as well as new homes.

The Channels Centre is building as a major community hub for us all and will continue to build up as our community grows.

We show below the planning consent and the future plans of Chelmsford City Council to create further development to the north, which will include further Country Park areas
